The Arlington Touchdown Club/Arthur J. McAvoy Award was instituted by the Trustees of the McAvoy Foundation to honor the memories of James, John, and Arthur McAvoy who were all past presidents. James was a founding father of the club and Arthur was the club's historian for many years.
The award is given to an Arlington resident graduating from one of the following local high schools; Arlington High School, Arlington Catholic High School, Minuteman Technical High School, Lexington Christian Academy, Matignon High School and Boston College High School. The student is selected by the trustees of the McAvoy Foundation from candidates nominated by the individual high schools.
