Known as the May Banquet, the Ostergren Awards Night was first held at the Touchdown Club dinner meeting on the second Thursday in May 1945.

The purpose is to honor Fred Ostergren by honoring the student athletes with appropriate recognition for league winning teams. A male and female student is singled out for special recognition for their qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship and decorum by receiving a special award.
